The Visions of Ed Adams and Robert Beck:
Moods, Myths, and Spaces
On View at E.M. Adams Gallery
The
art show “Moods,
Myths, and Spaces: The
Varied Visions of Ed Adams and Robert Beck” featuring
paintings of renowned
artists Edward M. Adams of Lambertville,
NJ and Robert Beck of Lumberville, PA will open with
an open house reception on Sun., March 20, 2005 from 1:00 – 6:00
p.m. at the E.M. Adams Gallery located at 19 N. Main Street
in New Hope, PA. The show closes on Sunday, April 17.
For the exhibition, each
artist will convey his
vision of ten different themes: streetscape, interiors, landscapes,
tension, tranquility, love, floral, fruit, a studio object, and
a myth based image. The different visions of Adams and Beck will
hang side by side in the gallery. In Moods, Myths and Spaces: The
Varied Visions of Ed Adams and Robert Beck, the artists have two
imaginations and two unconnected backgrounds but one intent — to
create arresting art.
“I hold a great deal of respect for Robert Beck's art; yet we possess
different visions,” says Adams. “We paint using different
styles, have different methods of painting and unrelated palates of color. In
the end, however, we have the most important element in common. We strive
to touch the elusive spirit."
“Ed and I have collaborated before, trying to find the artistic
commonality in our disparate techniques and vision,” says Beck. “This
project invites direct comparison of our individual languages. It
is also about community: the threads that connect perceptions, endeavors,
and people. I'm very excited to see how my work is defined in
the reflection of Ed's. It will be as much a discussion as an exhibition.”
Beck and Adams will present a gallery talk on Sunday, April 10 from 2 – 3:30
p.m. to discuss their painting styles and visions. The talk is free and open
to the public.
Artist Ed Adams is recognized for his emotional works of art and visionary bronze
sculptures. His sculpture of Oskar Schindler was presented to Steven Spielberg
for raising awareness of Schindler’s humanitarianism as portrayed in the
film Schindler’s List. The sculpture is on view at Hebrew University in
Jerusalem, Israel. An accomplished painter with a unique style, Adams is well-known
for his strong colors and rich textures. Adams’ colorful oil paintings
combine the figurative and the abstract, while conveying human experience. He
is a licensed psychologist with a private practice in Somerville,
NJ.
Artist Robert Beck paints from life and is known for painting events as they
happen, from everyday images to dramatic moments. Beck has painted in an operating
room, on a swing dance floor, and on the set of Good Morning America. These paintings
provide a glimpse of common and unusual activities that reveal extraordinary
diversity and provide a second look at ordinary things we see, but don’t
always notice. His studio and gallery are in Lambertville, NJ and his work can
be found in the collections of Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, James A.
Michener Art Museum, and the Grundy Museum. Examples of Beck’s work can
be seen at www.robertbeck.artspan.com
Available at the gallery are 12 inch bronze limited edition reproductions of
Adams’ “Angel of Hope” sculpture. The full-sized “Angel
of Hope” sculpture/fountain sits in front of the Occasions special event
facility, adjacent to the Michener Museum at Union Square in New Hope, PA.
The E.M. Adams Gallery continuously exhibits the colorful and unique paintings
and sculpture of Ed Adams. The gallery is located at 19 N. Main Street at
Union Square, adjacent to the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad (next to the Triumph
Brewing Company and across from the James A. Michener Museum) in New Hope, PA.
